Habitat for Humanity

RECAP of 2011

Great news that the homes in Old North St. Louis started in 2011 are nearing completion.  The owner of house #3 which Manchester United Methodist co- sponsored, is Nicole Eason. She is a mother of three boys, ages 6, 11 and 17 and is currently employed as a Health Information Representative with Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  She recently obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration.  She is looking forward to moving into their home this spring.

Financial Contributions

Every summer, the MO-Hab Riders set off on a 230 mile bike ride to raise funds for MUMC’s Habitat for Humanity outreach. Contributors can sponsor a specific rider or the ride or make a donation in general any time with checks to Manchester United Methodist Church/attention MO-Hab-Habitat for Humanity.

Items to donate?
Building/ construction items

ReStore is a facility run by Habitat for Humanity St. Louis.  It sells donated items to the general public to help support Habitat for Humanity St. Louis.  Also, it helps with recycling materials that would otherwise go into landfills and gives the public an opportunity to buy items at significant savings.  All donations are tax deductible.  Items that are accepted include doors, windows, hardware, cabinets, electrical fixtures, tile, appliances, etc.  ReStore is located at 3763 Forest Park Avenue.  For information and hours, call 314.531.4155.

Furniture

Families often need help with furnishing their new homes.  Beds, nightstands, dressers, dining tables and chairs, etc… are often needed.  Unfortunately, there is no place to store the furniture prior to builds and no way to know the exact needs of the families, but if you have furniture that you are replacing , give us a call to see if it could be put to use in a Habitat for Humanity home.

Cars for Homes Program

In 2010, Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis plans to build 30 new homes in St. Louis, which will include our 300th home. Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program has raised over two million dollars for Habitat affiliates all over the country since 2006. Vehicles that are donated are sold via a network of auto auctions, recyclers and salvage yards. The money is then distributed to Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis to support building in the metropolitan area. Help in our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle!

How it Works

The program is simple - we accept cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles and construction vehicles. The vehicle does not have to be in working order to be accepted as a donation to the program and all donors receive a letter documenting their tax deductible donation! For more information contact Rachel D’Souza-Siebert via email at rachel@habitatstl.org or call 314.371.0400, ext. 26.
