Stand Up and Raise Your Heads
The Babylonian Exile challenged the faith of the people, who had been promised God’s presence would be with them always, in the land and the temple itself. With all of that taken away, the people turned to the prophets to seek explanation and definition. Jeremiah promises restoration through the line of David, a king to rule with justice and righteousness, which connects with Jesus teaching about the coming of the Son of Man. The disciples thought he was going to be the one to restore the throne by military action.
