The entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem is not merely triumphalism, it is a “ritual of solidarity.” Jesus presents himself in solidarity with the people welcoming him by entering with humility. The people display their solidarity with one another in common words and actions. Solidarity takes us beyond unity; solidarity is unity that costs us something.
