The entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem is not merely triumphalism, it is a “ritual of solidarity.” Jesus presents himself in solidarity with the people welcoming him by entering with humility. The people display their solidarity with one another in common words and actions. Solidarity takes us beyond unity; solidarity is unity that costs us something.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) The Season of Advent is upon us, and the waiting has begun. We
