We Are Manchester

This Summer, our worship series will focus on … well, us!

The worship series is titled, “We Are Manchester,” and it will run from July 8-9 through August 5-6. The mission statement of this congregation is to “Make a difference for Christ by transforming church and community.” So how exactly do we do that? This series will highlight some of the ministry areas of Manchester United Methodist Church, one per week, and take a deeper dive into how Manchester UMC lives out our faith as a community.

In successive weeks we’ll focus on faith formation, mission and justice, generosity, congregational care, and worship arts. We do a LOT of things as a congregation, and pretty much every one of them fits into one of these broad categories. There is so much to celebrate about our work together, and this is our chance to pause in these summer weeks and do a little of that celebrating!

This would be a wonderful series to extend an invitation or two! Why not invite a neighbor or friend or family member to come along with you to experience this wonderful congregation? Being here for the next five weeks is sure to give a good overview of the mission and vision we are living into, as well as a fairly good idea about the various opportunities available.

I happen to think this is a pretty special congregation. I am humbled, and consider it a profound privilege to serve as the Lead Pastor here. I cannot wait for these upcoming weeks, as we affirm God’s presence with us, celebrate what the Spirit is calling us to do, and renew our commitment to be followers of Christ together in this community.

We will start the series with the ministry of faith formation. We make a difference for Christ in the world as we meet together to learn, to grow in our relationship with God and one another, and to become the church that God wants us to be. Every age – children, youth, and adults – has multiple opportunities to meet together in small groups, study God’s Word, deepen our connections with our friends and meet new ones, and be formed in the faith by the movement of the Holy Spirit.

So we’ll celebrate our faith formation ministry this weekend, to start off our “We Are Manchester” worship series. It’s going to be cool! I’ll see y’all in church!

Let There Be a Big Bang

Science teaches that the universe began 15 million years ago with a “Big Bang.” Genesis teaches that God created the “heavens and the earth” by speaking it all into existence. Human beings are composed of the same elements as the stars, which connects us to God’s creation in a very
