Sneakers with Soul

Sneakers with Soul works with local social service agencies such as LifeWise Stl and Epworth Children and Family Services, as well as area school districts to identify and properly fit children and youth that will be the recipients of quality brand name sneakers. Parents and guardians of the children/youth who receive the new sneakers pay nothing for the new sneakers that they receive.

2024 marks the 15th consecutive year for Sneakers with Soul in performing its work to fulfill its missions of providing high-quality brand name sneakers to under-resourced children and youth in grades K-12. Sneakers with Soul has been successful in negotiating special pricing with major footwear manufacturing that affords the agency the ability to purchase first-run quality sneakers at a 3rd of the cost of normal retail pricing. These discounts stretch our donor contributions to be able to ultimately serve more kids in need.

2024 Goal: Secure 1,000 pairs of sneakers = $20,000

Learn more about Sneakers with Soul

Sneakers with Soul mission is to provide new, high-quality, brand name sneakers to at-risk children and youth in poverty served by our partner agencies.

Sneakers with Soul®, a mission ministry that began in 2010 at ManchesterUMC, became a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2017 with a singular purpose of sourcing and distributing new sneakers for kids in grades K – 12 living in poverty.

Sneakers with Soul works with local social service agencies, such as LifeWise Stl and Epworth Children and Family Services, as well as area school districts to identify and properly fit children and youth that will be the recipients of quality brand name sneakers. Parents and guardians of the children/youth who receive the new sneakers pay nothing for the new sneakers that they receive.

Since its founding in 2010, Sneakers with Soul has sourced and distributed over 25,000 pairs of new sneakers/athletic shoes to kids in need.

Since 2012, LifeWise StL and Guardian Angel Settlement Association have hosted a back-to-school event for the community. New sneakers, backpacks and school supplies are distributed to all of the families that are served by these organizations.

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, Manchester UMC volunteers served at LifeWise StL’s Back-to-School event where over 400 children and their families passed through the store and picked out their own brand new backpacks, school supplies, and new sneakers!

Thank you all who gave their time to help St. Louis student start the school year with these much needed items!

Every dollar donated equates to $3 in retail value due to our manufacturer purchasing power.

Donations are accepted in any amount at any time throughout the year!  Because of the attractive pricing that Sneakers with Soul has been able to secure with the AdidasTM brand, your contribution of $20 will allow Sneakers with Soul to place a new pair of Adidas sneakers with a retail value of $60 on the feet of a child living in poverty.

A gift of just $25 will provide a quality pair of new sneakers with a retail value of $60 to a child or youth living in poverty.

Exactly How Did I Get Here? Part II

The Scripture for this final sermon is Mark 6:30-44. In this passage, Jesus recommends a time of rest and spiritual renewal for the disciples. The twelve had just returned from a mission during which they preached and healed. Jesus thought his closest followers needed a Sabbath, so he led them to a deserted place to recuperate. But Jesus’s planned retreat was interrupted because the crowds discovered where he was and packed the place. In this setting, Jesus demonstrates his compassion, showing himself to be the Good Shepherd as he cares for his people, sacrificing his own much-needed rest.

In God We Trust

Throughout the centuries, “trust in God” has been a frequent theme in our prayers, our hymns and our sacred songs. It is certainly a biblical theme as well. There are 182 references to “trust” in the Bible, and most of these refer to us placing our trust in God. In America, our money even proclaims “In God We Trust.” I invite you to join us for worship this weekend as we take a look at Psalm 105 and at the refrain, “In God We Trust.” Does that mean that we expect God will “fix” everything? What about free will? How should we really trust in God?
