Children

“But Jesus called for them and said, “Let

the little children come to me, and do not

stop them; for it is to such as these that the

 Kingdom of God belongs.”

                                                  Luke 18:16 NRSV

Welcome to Manchester United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry.  Beliefs about God and Jesus begin shortly after the birth of a child and continue throughout life.  As a child develops physically, mentally, and emotionally, the child also develops faith and spirituality which determine adult beliefs.   This is why it is so important for a child to have early and loving experiences of the church, Sunday school, and the church community.  MUMC strives to offer the best Christian education experiences available for our children.

Nursery

The nursery is available for ages three and under for children of members and visitors during worship services from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Little ones will join the infant room if they are not yet walking and move to the toddler room when they are steady on their feet. In August, children are promoted from the toddler room to Sunday school, if they are two years old by August 1st.

Childcare

At times during the week, there is a need for childcare so that parents may participate in Bible study, and attend classes and meetings. A minimum of two Safe Sanctuary Certified childcare workers/volunteers, who are knowledgeable in providing developmentally appropriate activities, in a safe and happy environment, will care for your child. Reservations should be made one week in advance by ministry leaders for those individuals requesting care.

Blessings at Birth

Whenever a new baby is born to MUMC members, a baby blanket, which has been lovingly made and blessed by the members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry, is delivered to the family.  Parents should contact the church office with information of the birth.

Safe Sanctuary

In order to provide a safe place for all children and youth to grow in faith, all persons working with children and youth must be Safe Sanctuary Certified at MUMC. Each United Methodist Congregation is mandated by the 2000 General Conference to have in place a Child Protection Policy. Ours has been in place since 1998 and has recently been updated in June, 2011. The training consists of attendance at a one-hour class and the completion of a Covenant/Application and background check form. After the paperwork is completed, an interview is scheduled with a designated staff member and an Identification badge is issued.
