Community Dinners Volunteer Team

Our Mission

We aim to foster multi-generational relationships and facilitate discipleship at Manchester UMC through food and programs on Wednesday evenings.

Our Purpose

    • Provide a convenient and affordable meal option for all generations and life stages
    • Create connections and deepen relationships within the congregation
    • Engage more people in weekly discipleship through serving and learning opportunities
    • Offer participants an easy way to invite others to experience Manchester UMC
    • Foster greater collaboration among all Wednesday evening programs and participants  

Sign-up to Help

Help make the Community Dinners experience possible by signing up to volunteer for one or more of the meals. You can choose from a variety of volunteer roles/positions based on your interests (e.g. shopping, cooking, serving, organizing, etc.) and availability. Support and training is provided for those volunteering in new roles. Your meal is FREE on the weeks you volunteer!

Weekly Leader Positions

  • Head Chef – Kitchen Leader (1 volunteer per week)
  • Front of House – Fellowship Hall Leader (1 volunteer per week)

  • Co-Head Chef (1-2 volunteers per week)
  • Kitchen Cooking Crew (4 volunteers per week)
  • Kitchen Clean Up Crew (2 volunteers per week)
  • Front of House Crew (3-4 volunteers per week)
  • Check In and Sales (2 volunteers per week)
  • Sell Bridge Bread (1 volunteer per week)

Volunteer Role Descriptions

Head Chef – Kitchen Leader (1 per week)

The Head Chef proposes the menu for their week. They and their team are also responsible for picking up, preparing and serving the food for their designated meal. They also facilitate kitchen clean-up, including dish washing. They coordinate the work of the Kitchen Crew. Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role.

Front of House – Fellowship Hall Leader (1 per week)

This person and their team are responsible for room setup, room clean-up, beverage service, guest check-in, guest hospitality (e.g., decorations, entertainment, etc.) and future reservations. They also recruit and coordinate the work of the Front of House Team volunteers.  Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role.

Co-Head Chef (1-2 per week)

This person ensures that the necessary food and supplies are procured for each meal. They work closely with the Head Chef to ensure they have what is needed for the meal within the designated budget. Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role.

Kitchen Cooking Crew (4 per week)

Volunteers in this role support the Head Chef with preparing and serving the food for their designated meal and assist with kitchen clean-up. They also invite others to join the team. Assist Chef and Co-Chef on Monday with shopping (if needed) and/or Tuesday for prepping the meal (if needed). Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role. Assist with sweeping the floor and trash removal.

Kitchen Clean Up Crew (2 per week)

Volunteers in this role support the Head Chef and Kitchen Crew by cleaning up after serving the meal which includes sweeping the kitchen and removing all kitchen trash. They also invite others to join the team. Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role.

Front of House Crew (3-4 per week)

Volunteers in this role support the Front of House Lead with room setup, room clean-up and beverage service and assist with guest hospitality. They also invite others to join the team. Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role. Assist with taking home table linens and returning them by the following Sunday. Assist with clearing and sweeping Fellowship Hall.

Check in and Sell Meals on Wednesday Nights (2 per week)

Volunteers in this role checks those who have pre-paid for their meals, and sells to walk-ins, as well as individuals who want to purchase future meals.  This volunteer supports the Front of House Lead with room setup, room clean-up and beverage service and assist with guest check-in, guest hospitality, and reservations. They also invite others to join the team. Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role.

Sell Bridge Bread (1 per week)

Volunteers in this role sets up a table with provided signage and baskets, sells the provided Bridge Bread products, and puts away table, baskets, chair and signage. Volunteers can choose which week(s) they serve in this role.
