Prayer Shawl Ministry

Caring

Need a prayer shawl?

Since the Prayer Shawl Ministry began 14 years ago, over 2500 people have received prayer shawls and many others have received hats, scarves, and baby blankets –  all made by approximately 100 dedicated women at Manchester UMC.

If you know someone who is in need of a prayer shawl, please drop by or call the church office (636.394.7506) to request a prayer shawl. Prayer Shawls are available free of charge for anyone who needs extra love during difficult times, whether or not they are members of Manchester UMC.

Volunteer

The ministry continually makes prayer shawls but more volunteers are needed. Yarn kits are available free in the Annex near the back entrance of the Nursery. The group meets the third Wednesday of each month in the Fireside Room where they teach knitting and crocheting as well as work on projects, tag shawls, and bless all handiwork before it is packaged and distributed.

Our Prayer Shawl Team has connected with one of our members who works directly with an agency that serves the homeless/unhoused. As winter approaches, these folks are in desperate need of warm knitted or crocheted scarves and/or hats. Therefore, our team will be making hats and scarves to help fulfill this need, and you are invited to join them. So, grab your needles and hooks and make a scarf or two. Scarves should be approximately 16″x40″ and hats should be adult size in any type of dark yarn you have. Completed items ned to be delivered to Pastor Mary Beth’s office by November 15. Please mark the bag with your items in it as “Hats and Scarves for the homeless/unhoused.”

Please register if you are able to volunteer:

If questions, please email the Prayer Shawl ministry leaders, June Van Klaveren or Penny Klebe.
