Description: Our study this fall will be a discussion of a video series: SEARCHING FOR THE HISTORICAL JESUS. Who was this man? Where did he come from? And how would he have viewed his own ministry?
“Searching for the Historical Jesus” takes you back two millennia to explore the history, context, and character of a humble carpenter who changed the world. Taught by Dr. Jean-Pierre Isbouts, a professor emeritus at Fielding Graduate University, these 15 thought-provoking episodes, filmed on-location in Israel and Jordan in the Holy Land, bring Jesus and his world to life through the lens of a historian of faith.
Jean-Pierre reveals what we know about the man behind the religion of Christianity: from the nativity story with Joseph and the Virgin Mary to the Sermon on the Mount to Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem to his trial and crucifixion. Jean-Pierre shares what we know from historical and archaeological evidence, including the Gospels, the writings of Josephus, and 21st-century excavations. He also delves into the mysteries of the faith and considers how Jesus’s message transformed into a world religion.
