Luke 12:49-53. Today’s passage presents some of the harshest language we ever hear from the mouth of Jesus. Here Jesus says clearly that he has not come to bring peace, but to bring fire. The fire may refer to several things, but is clearly connected to the purifying purpose for which he was sent. The Gospel can be divisive; the key is in how we respond to that division.
