Matthew 6:5-15; Proverbs 2:1-5. Prayer is both a private conversation with God and an act that binds us together. We do not inform God of anything when we pray, since God knows what we need. Rather, we nurture our relationship with God in our prayers, drawing closer into the divine as we make ourselves vulnerable and open in their presence. Similarly, prayer draws us closer into relationship with those for whom we pray, building the community as we call others to me.
